Teaching guide

What children will practise

Colour places and animals from around the world and name what they see, such as pyramid, windmill, kangaroo and llama, in Thai and English.

What's in the worksheet

40 colouring pages, A4 PDF in Thai and English - Opens and closes with a globe: a child with a globe, and waving goodbye to the globe - Places such as the pyramids in the desert, walking under cherry blossoms, a gondola ride, a windmill and tulip field, an ancient stone circle and a great canyon - Local animals such as a kangaroo with its joey, a llama on a mountain, a panda in a bamboo forest, a puffin by the sea and whale watching - Close to home such as a longtail boat by the river and a mangrove boardwalk - "Holding a blank map" and "holding a postcard on the beach" leave space for children to draw their own - Thin lines; some pages are very open, while forest pages are finely detailed for older children

How to use it in class

Suits Grades 1-3 in a world or countries unit, or English lessons about places. - Colour "holding a postcard on the beach", then have children draw on the blank postcard and write I am in ... - Compare "a longtail boat by the river" with "a gondola ride" and have children say how the two boats differ

Common sticking points

- "A mangrove boardwalk" has tangled roots and dense leaves that younger children often colour as one mass - "The pyramids in the desert" is very open, and children often colour just the child and stop; encourage them to colour the sand, sky and pyramid too - Lines are thinner than in most books, so pressing hard with crayons hides the outlines on detailed pages such as "a reindeer in the pine forest"
