Teaching guide

What children will practise

Colour zoo animals and name each one, such as giraffe, zebra, panda and flamingo, in Thai and English.

What's in the worksheet

30 colouring pages, A4 PDF in Thai and English - Big animals such as feeding a giraffe, an elephant spraying water, a hippo in the pool, a rhino in the mud and a gorilla with its baby - Animals from far away such as a koala hugging a tree, a kangaroo family, a sloth on a branch, a meerkat family and a chameleon - Birds and water animals such as two parrots, a peacock with its tail open, a penguin sliding on snow and a seal balancing a ball - A child visitor appears on most pages, ending with "bye-bye zoo" - Medium lines; some pages have fine leaves and feathers for older children

How to use it in class

Use from kindergarten to Grade 3 before or after a zoo trip, or in an animals unit. - Colour "bye-bye zoo" and have children name every animal in the picture in English - Pair pages such as "kangaroo family" and "gorilla with its baby" and have children tell how the mothers look after their young

Common sticking points

- "Two parrots" has layered wing feathers and leaves filling the page, so younger children often colour each wing as one block - "The peacock" has many eye patterns on its tail, and children often tire before finishing; let them return to it over several days - On "zebra family", colouring the whole body dark hides the stripes; remind children to leave the white stripes
