A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.
Red, yellow and blue - and every other colour is mixed from them.
Yellow and blue are two primaries; mixed, they give green, a secondary colour.
A drum sounds when struck, so it is percussion.
Before you play
Reviews several Grade 1 art topics in one game: primary colours and mixing, struck instruments, the feeling of curved lines, scissor safety and manners when viewing a friend's work. Good as an end-of-term check.
6 questions, 3 options each, covering both visual art and music - What are the three primary colours? (red, yellow, blue) - What kind of instrument is a drum? (struck) - How does a curved line feel? (graceful and soft) - How do you hold scissors safely? (points down)
A good end-of-term or pre-test warm-up, about 6 minutes, rows competing as teams. Each question comes from a different unit, so note on the board any question most teams miss and which unit it points back to, then use the topic set for that unit next lesson. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.
- Primary colours: the distractor "red, yellow, green" catches children thinking of traffic lights. Stress that green is made from yellow and blue, as the next question shows. - Curved line: some choose "steady and strong", the feeling of a straight line. Draw a curve and a straight line side by side. - Drum: the "string instrument" distractor can pull in unsure children. Mime beating a drum.
