What children will practise

Practises naming the feeling of different lines, spotting basic shapes in everyday objects, knowing what art tools do, and linking colours to things in nature. Fits indicator ศ 1.1 ป.1/2 on the shapes of things around us.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, match 4 pairs each - zigzag line goes with excited, moving; horizontal straight line goes with calm - oval goes with egg; triangle goes with a house roof - crayon goes with bold colouring; brush goes with watercolour - brown goes with a tree trunk

How to use it in class

Follow a line-drawing activity, about 7 minutes, solo or in pairs. Before the lines round, have children trace each kind of line in the air and say how it feels. If many miss the shapes round, give one minute to hunt for circles, rectangles and ovals in the room. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Lines round: horizontal and vertical lines get swapped because "calm" and "steady, tall" sound alike. Picture a person lying flat and a tree standing tall. - Circle and oval: Grade 1 children may pair the egg with the circle. Put a ball and an egg side by side. - Crayon and pencil: some swap them since both can draw lines.
