What children will practise

Practises naming the aesthetic, practical and cultural value of art, the term applied art, how art reflects its time, and the role of local artists and ways to support Thai art. Fits indicator ศ 1.2 ป.3/2.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, pick 1 of 3 - What kinds of value does art have? (beauty, use and culture) - What do we call art that is both beautiful and useful? (applied art) - Why does art reflect its era? (artists make what they see in their time) - How can we support Thai art? (buy from craftspeople and go to performances)

How to use it in class

Before playing, put two real things on the desk, say a clay pot or woven basket and a painting, and ask how they differ; then play, about 7 minutes, whole class. For the applied-art question, point back to the pot. For a question many miss, ask which useful object at home is also beautiful. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Applied art is a new term for Grade 3; children guess between applied and fine art. Hook: applied means put to use. - Value of art: the distractor "price and the artist's fame" attracts children who have heard about expensive paintings. - Reflecting the era: some pick "the year is written in the corner", reading the question literally.
