A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.
Both how it looks and whether it works.
Knowing who it is for and what it is for.
Easy to read, large enough lettering, and colour that stands off the ground.
Before you play
Practises thinking like a designer: weigh beauty and use, ask first who will use it and for what, make signs easy to read, symbols clear without words, packaging that cuts waste, and sketch several options before choosing. Fits indicator ศ 1.1 ป.3/3.
6 questions, pick 1 of 3 - What should you do before designing? (find out who will use it and for what) - What makes a good sign? (easy to read, colours that contrast with the background) - What makes a good symbol? (understood without reading) - What should packaging design consider? (protecting the product and cutting waste)
Use before children design a classroom sign or campaign poster, about 7 minutes, whole class. For the sign and symbol questions, point to real signs at school such as the toilet or fire exit. For a question many miss, show two signs, one with small text that blends in and one large and contrasting, and have children look from the back of the room. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.
- Good sign: children often pick "colours that blend with the background", having just learned harmonious colours look nice. Show that a sign must be readable before it is pretty. - Packaging: "wrap in many layers to look luxurious" draws children who love wrapped gifts. Ask how much rubbish the wrapping leaves. - Several sketches: some pick "more pieces to hand in", seeing it as homework.
