What children will practise

Practises the elements of music: tempo tells speed, harmony, tone colour, the instrument families of the orchestra, what a conductor does, and analytical listening. Fits indicator ศ 2.1 ป.4/1.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, choose 1 of 3 - Which element of music tells the speed? (tempo/beat) - What is harmony? (several notes sounding together pleasingly) - Which families make up an orchestra? (strings, woodwind, brass and percussion) - What does a conductor do? (directs the tempo and dynamics of the orchestra)

How to use it in class

Play after listening to a short instrumental piece together, about 7 minutes, whole class. For the conductor question, let a pupil conduct the class clapping faster, slower, louder and softer. For harmony, have half the class sing do and the other half mi at the same time. For a question many miss, replay the piece and point out that element. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Harmony: the distractor "notes sounding one after another" describes melody, so children who cannot yet separate them choose it. Singing two notes together helps. - Tone colour: children often pick pitch. Play two instruments on the same note. - Orchestra: the distractor "strings, ranat, khong wong and pi nai" also starts with strings, so children who do not read to the end pick it.
