What children will practise

Practises linking local materials to suitable work, matching regions to famous crafts, understanding the steps of weaving, and naming the cultural, economic, aesthetic and practical value of handicrafts. Fits indicator ศ 1.1 ป.5/3.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, match 4 pairs each - mulberry paper (sa) goes with crafts and lanterns - the North goes with Bo Sang umbrellas; the South with nielloware and kris daggers; the Central region with Benjarong porcelain - setting up the loom goes with laying the warp threads; weaving goes with passing the weft back and forth - economic value goes with earning income for the community

How to use it in class

Fits a local wisdom unit, about 8 minutes, in teams. Before the regions round, show pictures of a Bo Sang umbrella, mudmee silk, nielloware and Benjarong without names and let teams guess. For the weaving round, a one-minute clip of hand-loom weaving makes warp and weft clear. Afterwards, talk about the crafts of your own province. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Weaving: warp and weft are new terms, so children swap "set up the loom" and "weave". Show a clip or make a simple paper loom. - Nielloware and Benjarong are unfamiliar to most, so the South and Central pairs may swap. - Cultural value and aesthetic value may swap, since a beautiful pattern can also be heritage.
