A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.
Each part of the body is cared for in its own way.
Know what a part of the body does and you see why it needs care.
Personal things should not be shared.
Before you play
Learn outer body parts and what they do (eyes, ears, nose, mouth), how to care for teeth, hair, hands and eyes, which items clean the body, and when in the day each hygiene routine happens.
4 matching rounds, 4 pairs each - Body part to care, e.g. teeth with brushing twice a day, eyes with reading in good light - Body part to job, e.g. nose with breathing and smelling - Item to cleaning job, e.g. shampoo with washing hair, towel with drying off - Time of day to routine, e.g. before meals with washing hands, before bed with a bath and brushing teeth
Grade 1 readers vary widely, so read each prompt and card aloud first; about 6-8 minutes. - Play as a whole class on the projector, inviting children up one at a time while the rest call out help - During round 2, have children point to each body part on themselves as it is read - If round 4 goes badly, have children describe their own morning routine and compare with the cards - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.
- Round 4: 'after playing' and 'waking up' both include washing the face, so children who read one word swap them; look at the first action, brushing teeth or washing hands - Round 1: eyes with reading in good light is not obviously care, so it is often left last; explain dim light tires the eyes - Round 2: mouth and nose may cause hesitation since both help breathing; point out that here the mouth pairs with eating and speaking
