Game teaching guide

What children will practise

A mixed Grade 2 health and PE review: calcium and bones, warming up, where Aedes mosquitoes lay eggs, safe medicine use, sportsmanship and handling anger.

What's in the worksheet

6 multiple-choice questions, 3 options each, one topic each - Calcium makes bones strong - Warm up before exercise - Aedes mosquitoes lay eggs in clear, still water (distractor: flowing canal water) - Take medicine only from an adult or doctor (distractor: when an advert says it is good) - Sportsmanship is accepting loss, winning gracefully and forgiving; when angry, stop and breathe deeply

How to use it in class

Use as an end-of-term review; about 5 minutes. - Read questions aloud; play in teams or as a whole class - Check per-question results and follow any weak spot with that topic's own game, e.g. preventing illness or safe play - For question 5, recall the last sports day: when did someone show good sportsmanship? - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Question 3: 'damp soil under bushes' is where children see mosquitoes, so they pick it; explain mosquitoes rest in bushes but breed in still water - Question 4: 'when an advert says it is good' tempts children who watch a lot of adverts - Question 1: some children think salt makes you strong and choose it - Question 6: 'say quickly that you are angry' sounds right because children are told to share feelings; stress calming down first
