Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Stay safe online: personal details not to share, handling an online stranger who wants to meet, what cyberbullying is and how to respond, strong passwords, and thinking before posting photos.

What's in the worksheet

6 multiple-choice questions, 3 options each - Do not share your address, phone number or school name - An online stranger wants to meet: refuse and tell a parent (distractor: meet them if you bring a friend) - Cyberbullying is using messages or images to hurt someone - If bullied online, save the evidence and tell an adult - A good password is long, mixes letters and numbers, and stays secret; posted photos may be saved and never fully deleted

How to use it in class

Use in the online safety unit; about 6 minutes. - Play solo, then discuss questions 2 and 4 in groups, since children meet these situations in online games - For question 5, have children think up a strong password from an easy-to-remember sentence, without writing it down or telling anyone - For question 1, suggest children check their social profiles with a parent at home for their school name - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Question 2: 'meet them if you bring a friend' sounds safe and many choose it; stress children should never meet online contacts without a parent - Question 4: 'delete the messages and tell no one' is what embarrassed children do, and it destroys the evidence - Question 1: children do not see their school name as risky and many already have it on their profiles - Question 6: 'you can delete it any time' is a common belief
