What children will practise

Practises sorting Grade 2 social studies ideas: behaviour that helps the community versus causes problems, rights versus duties, jobs that make goods versus provide services, and northern versus southern culture. Supports indicator ส 2.1 ป.2/1.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, sort 4 items into 2 groups - putting litter in the bin and helping tidy help the community; graffiti and noise in the library cause problems - going to school and being kept safe are rights; homework and obeying traffic rules are duties - orchard farmers and tailors make goods; nurses and bus drivers provide services - Yi Peng and nam phrik ong are northern; Chak Phra and kaeng tai pla are southern

How to use it in class

A mid-term review, about 6 minutes, in teams. In the rights and duties round, have teams decide before each reveal: is it something we receive, or something we must do? For the regions round, show Yi Peng lanterns and the Chak Phra boat procession, and let any child from another region share food or festivals from home. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Rights and duties: Grade 2 children often swap "going to school" and "doing homework" since both concern learning. Point to the word "get" in the right. - Regions: most children from other regions do not know Chak Phra or kaeng tai pla and get them by elimination. - Tailor may be put under services since tailors sew to order. Accept it is borderline, but here it counts as making clothes.
