What children will practise

Practises the sequence of Thai history (Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, Thonburi, Rattanakosin), the steps of historical enquiry, and ranking how reliable sources are. Fits indicator ส 4.3 ป.3/1.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, order 4 items each - Sukhothai > Ayutthaya > Thonburi > Rattanakosin - founding of Sukhothai > of Ayutthaya > of Thonburi > of Rattanakosin - ask a question > gather evidence > analyse the evidence > conclude and present - inscriptions from the time > contemporary records > books written later > word-of-mouth stories

How to use it in class

Use after teaching the Thai history timeline, about 6 minutes, solo. Rounds 1 and 2 cover the same sequence, which helps you see who really knows it and who is guessing; if a child misses one and gets the other, ask why. After the evidence round, ask why word of mouth is least reliable, and play a quick game of whispers. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Thonburi and Rattanakosin are the most common swap; Thonburi was so short that children forget it. Hook: Thonburi sits between Ayutthaya and Bangkok. - Evidence round: "inscriptions from the time" and "contemporary records" are both primary sources, so many children swap them; do not treat this as a misconception. - Enquiry round: "analyse" and "gather" may swap.
