A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.
Sort into
Countries fall into the continents they sit in.
Sort into
Separate exports from imports.
Sort into
Some problems are local; others belong to the whole world.
Before you play
Sort world knowledge four ways: Asian versus European countries, Thai exports versus imports, local versus global environmental problems, and clean versus polluting energy.
4 sorting rounds, 2 baskets each - Asia or Europe: Japan, Germany, India, Italy - Export or import: Thailand sells rice abroad, Thailand buys oil, rubber shipped to China, machinery imported from Japan - Local or global: rubbish in the community, global warming, polluted canals, plastic in the oceans - Clean or polluting: wind, coal, solar, diesel
Use to review the 'our world' unit; about 4-5 minutes. - Before round 2, agree on key words: selling out = export, buying in = import - After round 3, have each child add one local problem from their own community - Timed team play works well because the cards are short and clear - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.
- Round 3: ocean plastic may look like a local beach problem; point out plastic drifts between countries, so it is global - Round 2: cards starting with 'Thailand', such as Thailand buys oil, tempt a quick drag to export; read the verb, sell or buy, first - Round 1: most manage, but India may cause hesitation for children unsure how far Asia stretches
