Fables use talking animals to teach without pointing at anyone.
Before you play
Practise drawing lessons from fables (the hare and the tortoise, the boy who cried wolf), knowing fable features (talking animals, a moral at the end), and recognising the Ramakien, so children can apply lessons in daily life (ท 5.1 ป.3/1).
6 multiple-choice questions - What does the hare and the tortoise teach (effort beats carelessness) - What does the boy who cried wolf teach (lie often and nobody believes you) - What are fable characters usually (talking animals) - Where does a fable's moral usually come (at the end) - Which is well-known Thai literature: Aesop / Grimm / the Ramakien
Use after telling both fables in class, 4-5 minutes in solo mode. - After items 1 and 2, children describe a real situation where the lesson applies - For item 6, children name Ramakien characters they know, such as Hanuman - Use it as a lead-in before children write the lesson of a new fable Play it linked to a class and the results go into the mark book.
- Item 6: choosing Aesop because item 1 just named it; stress that the question asks for Thai literature - Item 1: choosing never compete, since the hare lost a race - Item 3: children who know folk tales with human heroes may hesitate; point out the word มัก (usually)
