Before you play
Tells apart the kinds of noun (common, proper, collective, classifier) and picks the right classifier for elephants and books. Tagged ท 4.1 ป.4/1, though the content is closer to ท 4.1 ป.4/2, kinds of word.
6 questions, multiple choice with three options each - The common noun is โรงเรียน (distractors: โรงเรียนวัดใหม่ and สมชาย) - The proper noun is แม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา - The collective noun is ฝูง (flock) and the classifier is ตัว - Three elephants take เชือก; three books take เล่ม
A 5-minute solo check once all four kinds of noun have been taught. On questions 1 and 2, draw attention to โรงเรียน versus โรงเรียนวัดใหม่, a very clear example of a general name versus a particular one. After question 3, ask for more collective nouns such as กอง or คณะ. Note that the set has no pronouns despite its title, so teach those separately. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook. In English mode, question 5 mistranslates the classifier ใบ as leaves; play that item in Thai mode.
- Question 3: choosing ช้าง or ป่า because they picture a herd in a forest. Ask which word names a group. - Question 5: choosing ตัว, which is common in speech. Accept that people say it, but the textbook answer is เชือก. - Question 2: choosing แม่น้ำสายใหญ่ because a big river must have a name. Point out that the option never names the river.
