Practises idioms, royal vocabulary, literary words and the origins of loanwords. It matches indicator ท 4.1 ป.5/5 (foreign words in Thai), with links to ป.5/4 (royal words) and ป.5/7 (idioms).
4 questions, a matching game with four pairs each - Match ตกกระไดพลอยโจน to going along with it because there is no way out - Match ทรงพระอักษร to read or write, and พระราชทาน to give - Match นภา to sky and วารี to water - Match กุ๊ยช่าย to Chinese and ธรรมะ to Pali
Use it at the end of a royal-vocabulary or loanword unit, 6-8 minutes. In teams, have the team write a short sentence with one word they got right. After question 2, play a short clip of court news so they hear the royal words in use. In question 3, ปฐพี and พสุธา mean almost the same and the game accepts only one arrangement, so tell children beforehand that either way round is fine. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook.
- Question 3: swapping ปฐพี and พสุธา, since both mean land and the options แผ่นดิน and พื้นดิน are near-synonyms. The two pairs really are interchangeable, so count a swap as correct. - Question 1: swapping ไก่เห็นตีนงู and รู้อย่างเป็ด because both involve animals. Have children describe the picture in each idiom first. - Question 4: mismatching กะหล่ำ because it feels like a Thai word. The game keys it as Persian, but it is not among the Persian loans textbooks usually list, so add the textbook examples กุหลาบ and องุ่น. In English mode the target reads China rather than Chinese.
