Sample questions

A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.

  1. Put the parts of an article in order.

    • Bring in examples
    • Conclude, and propose
    • Give the supporting reasons
    • Open the question
    Read the explanation

An article opens with the question, argues it, and closes with a proposal.

  2. Put the steps of a research report in order.

    • Frame the question
    • Research it in several sources
    • Set it out and analyse it
    • Write the bibliography
    Read the explanation

Frame the question and you know what to look for; the references come last.

  3. Put the steps of an argumentative paragraph in order.

    • Close by holding your position
    • Give the supporting reasons
    • Grant the other side's objection
    • State your position
    Read the explanation

State your position first, then your reasons, then meet the objection.

What children will practise

Orders academic writing: the shape of an article, the steps of a research report, an argumentative paragraph, and a well-turned sentence. It matches indicator ท 2.1 ป.6/4 (essay writing), with a link to ท 2.1 ป.6/2 (clear, correct written communication).

What's in the worksheet

4 questions, an ordering game with four pieces each - Article: open the question > supporting reasons > examples > conclude and propose - Research report: frame the question > research several sources > set out and analyse > bibliography - Argument paragraph: state your position > reasons > grant the objection > hold your position - Sentence: คณะนักเรียน > ได้จัดทำ > โครงงานวิทยาศาสตร์ > เพื่อส่งเข้าประกวด

How to use it in class

Use it before setting a Grade 6 project or research report, 5-6 minutes in teams. Question 3 mirrors the paragraph structure in QS-THAI-P6-ORDER-01, so link the two. In question 4, have children move เพื่อส่งเข้าประกวด to the front and hear how the sentence changes. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Question 1: swapping reasons and examples, which can swap in real writing. Say that the game puts reasons before examples. - Question 3: putting grant the objection last, thinking that is where you stop. Stress that you return to your position at the end. - Question 2: putting the bibliography before setting it out, since sources are noted while researching. Notes start early, but the bibliography is written up last. - Question 4: a child who puts เพื่อส่งเข้าประกวด at the front has written a grammatical sentence. The game accepts one order because a long modifier at the end reads more smoothly, which is a matter of style; tell the child their version is not wrong.
