Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Review several Grade 1 life-skills topics in one game: passing scissors safely, washing hands before cooking and eating, service occupations, thinking before buying, and the first step in planting vegetables.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options each - Passing scissors: handles toward the receiver - Which job provides a service: doctor (not rice farmer or baker) - Before buying: think about need and the money you have - Planting vegetables in a pot starts with filling it with soil - Before cooking and before eating: wash your hands

How to use it in class

Use at the end of a unit or term as a 5-minute review. - Play solo to see who still misses which topic, then reteach only that topic - After question 1, demonstrate passing real scissors to a child - If many miss question 3, ask "Does the doctor make something we can take home?" - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook; it works well as an end-of-unit score.

Common sticking points

- In question 3, choosing baker because selling cakes to people feels like a service; separate making a thing from helping someone without giving a thing - In question 6, choosing water it first because they remember plants need water - In question 5, choosing the free gift in the box because it is tempting; use it to talk about toy advertising
