Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Plan and manage work systematically: set a goal, break a big job into small ones, use a timetable, adjust the plan when you fall behind, review finished work, and share roles and talk in group work.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options each - The first step to finishing a job: set a clear goal - Breaking up a big job: you see the steps and can start easily - Behind the plan: review and adjust it - Reviewing finished work: you know what to improve next time (not who made the most mistakes) - Group work: clear roles and keep talking

How to use it in class

Use before setting a group project or a big piece of work. 5 minutes. - Play as a class, then each group writes its goal and sub-tasks for its own project straight away - Use question 6 to set group rules before starting - If many miss question 4, ask "Which wastes more time: starting again, or adjusting just the stuck part?" - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.

Common sticking points

- In question 1, choosing gather all the materials first, since practical lessons often start that way; point out that you need the goal to know which materials - In question 6, choosing let the best person do it all, which really happens in groups - In question 5, choosing find out who made the most mistakes, thinking review means blaming
