What children will practise

Manage a home and its resources with a plan: plan household spending, tell fixed from variable costs, cut the electricity bill, mend instead of replacing, and keep the house safe.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options each - Planning household spending: the money lasts with some left over - Fixed cost: the same every month; variable cost: changes with use - Cutting electricity: switch off and use efficient devices (not unplugging the fridge nightly) - Mending instead of buying: saves money and waste - A safe home: dangerous things out of children's reach, walkways clear

How to use it in class

Use in the Grade 6 housework unit alongside children looking at their home electricity bill. 6 minutes. - Play solo, then compare two months' bills to see it is a variable cost - For question 4, explain that unplugging the fridge spoils food and uses extra power to cool down again - If many miss question 2 or 3, ask "Is this month's rent different from next month's? And the electricity?" - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.

Common sticking points

- In question 4, choosing set the air-con as cold as possible, thinking faster cooling saves power - In question 4, choosing unplug the fridge at night, which sounds like saving electricity - In question 2, choosing an unnecessary expense because คงที่ (fixed) is unfamiliar
