What children will practise

Know technologies that are changing the world (AI, robots, the internet of things, 3D printing), weigh their positive and negative effects, understand future skills, and match each online risk to its safeguard.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, a matching game with 4 pairs each - Internet of things with linking devices; 3D printing with making objects from a digital design - Jobs displaced with an effect on employment; data leaks with a privacy risk - Critical thinking with weighing information by reason; collaboration with working with people unlike you - Online fraud with checking before paying or sharing; viruses with not opening untrusted files

How to use it in class

Use in the Grade 6 technology-and-the-future lesson. 7 minutes. - Play in teams, then each team finds an internet-of-things example at home or school, such as a CCTV camera viewed on a phone - Use round 2 to debate which effects are good and which need care - If many miss round 1, ask "Which technology needs several devices talking to each other?" - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.

Common sticking points

- In round 1, swapping AI and robots, which children often see as the same; AI is software that analyses, a robot is a machine that moves and works - In round 1, not knowing the internet of things and matching by elimination - In round 3, swapping imagination and critical thinking because both involve thinking
