What children will practise

Practises recognising Thai art through history: the graceful Sukhothai Buddha images, Khmer, Chinese and Western influence on Ayutthaya art, the stories in mural paintings, Thai patterns, temples as a home for many arts, and caring for murals. Fits indicator ศ 1.2 ป.4/1.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options - What is special about Sukhothai art? (graceful, beautiful Buddha images) - Which influences shaped Ayutthaya art? (Khmer, Chinese and Western) - What do Thai murals usually tell? (the Buddha's life, Jataka tales and daily life) - How do we look after murals? (do not touch, no flash photography)

How to use it in class

Good before a temple or museum trip, about 7 minutes, whole class. Project a Sukhothai Buddha image and a real mural during the reveals. After the conservation question, agree on photo rules for the visit. For a question many miss, have children look at the real image and name the evidence they see. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Conservation: "repaint it bright again" looks like good care to children. Explain that painting over destroys the original. - Ayutthaya: some pick "no outside influence", assuming Thai art must be purely Thai. - Thai patterns: some pick "dots and circles in rows" if they have never looked closely at a Thai pattern.
