What children will practise

Practises seeing performance as communication: the purpose of each kind of show, what lighting, sound, scenery and costume do, performers' skills, and how to handle problems on stage such as forgotten lines or a missed cue. Fits indicator ศ 3.2 ป.6/1.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, match 4 pairs each - social-issue drama goes with making people think about problems; ceremonial performance goes with creating a sense of the sacred - scenery goes with showing place and time - interpreting the script goes with understanding what the character thinks - forgetting lines goes with improvising so the story continues; sound failure goes with speaking louder and slower

How to use it in class

Use during rehearsals for a class performance, about 8 minutes, with teams matching the performance groups. After the stage-problems round, give each team a one-minute live scenario, such as switching off a mic or having someone forget a line, and let them recover as learned. For a round many miss, ask "If this happened to our group on the day, what would we do?" Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Stage elements: lighting and sound may swap since both mention mood or atmosphere. Point to "highlights the focus", which only lighting does. - Stage problems: "forgot lines" and "a friend missed a cue" often swap since both involve the script. Ask whether it is you or a friend who slipped. - Folk and ceremonial performances may swap, since some folk performances are also used in ceremonies.
