Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Review several Grade 4 topics: the first stage of design, why we back up, organic farming, using others' work, safety before electrical repairs, and seeing through get-rich-quick adverts.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options each - The design process begins by defining the problem - Backing up protects against data loss (not power cuts) - Using others' work: ask permission and cite it - Before electrical repairs: switch off the breaker - An advert promising certain riches: be very wary

How to use it in class

Use as an end-of-term Grade 4 quiz. 5 minutes. - Play solo linked to the class, then revisit only the unit behind the most-missed question - For question 6, show a real-looking social media advert and ask which words should make us suspicious - If many miss question 2, ask "When the power comes back after a cut, is saved work gone?" - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.

Common sticking points

- In question 2, choosing a power cut, having heard of work lost in one; explain that saving guards against power cuts while backups guard against broken devices and lost files - In question 5, choosing rubber gloves only, having seen electricians wear them - In question 6, choosing bring other people in too, thinking it is sharing something good
