Before you play
Practises recognising community places and services: government offices versus shops, places to learn versus places to be treated, service jobs versus jobs that make goods, and shared versus personal things. Fits indicator ส 5.1 ป.1/1.
4 rounds, sort 4 items into 2 groups - the state hospital and district office are government places; the grocery and fresh market are shops - school and library are for learning; hospital and clinic are for treatment - doctors and teachers provide services; rice farmers and bakers make goods - parks and roads are shared; your school bag and your pencil are personal
Use after a walk around the school or looking at pictures of the community, about 6 minutes, in teams. Read place names aloud and ask whether your community has one. In the jobs round, let children share their parents' work and sort it together. After the shared-things round, talk about how to look after parks and roads. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.
- District office: most Grade 1 children have never been, so they guess. Show a picture and mention it is where ID cards are made. - State hospital may be put with shops because people pay for medicine there. - Library: some hesitate because there is no teacher. Point out that reading there is learning.
