What children will practise

Practises grouping by Grade 2 ideas: light versus dark colour value, string versus struck instruments, solo versus group performance, and reusable craft materials versus rubbish. Supports indicator ศ 1.1 ป.2/1.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, sort 4 items into 2 groups - light pink and light blue are light values; maroon and navy are dark - so and chakhe are string instruments; drum and ching are struck - solo dance and solo singing are solo; rabam and ramwong are group performances - plastic bottles and cardboard boxes can be crafted with; food scraps and used tissue cannot

How to use it in class

A mid-unit review, about 5 minutes, in teams. Before the colour-value round, mix red with white and red with black so children see it. In the instruments round, if a team hesitates over the chakhe or ching, play each sound and ask "Does the sound come from a string or from striking?" The materials round sets up your next craft lesson. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Ching: many children do not know the name and may guess string. Show a picture of the pair of small cymbals striking. - Chakhe is plucked, but here it sits in the string group. Tell children plucked and bowed instruments are both string instruments. - Maroon (daeng lueat mu) is an unfamiliar colour name; some put it with light values. Show a swatch.
