That the thing is far away, which gives the picture depth.
The chakhe sounds when its strings are plucked, so it is a plucked instrument.
Before you play
Reviews Grade 3 art across units: how many notes in Western music, drawing far things small to show distance, the chakhe as a plucked instrument, how tie-dye patterns form, manora as a southern performance, and design that balances beauty and use.
6 questions, 3 options, one unit each - How many main notes are there in Western music? (7) - What does drawing a far object small show? (that it is far away) - What kind of instrument is the chakhe? (plucked) - Which region is manora from? (the South)
An end-of-term wrap-up, about 6 minutes, teams competing. Note any question most teams miss and open the matching topic set next lesson: the notes and instruments set for the chakhe question, the depth set for the far-object question. For the notes question, have the class sing do re mi fa sol la ti counting on their fingers. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.
- Notes: some pick 12 from counting piano keys including the black ones, or 5 thinking of the five-line staff. - Chakhe: the "bowed" distractor catches children who remember it is a string instrument but mix up plucked and bowed. - Far objects: some pick "shows it is important", mixing it with the size-shows-importance idea learned earlier.
