What children will practise

Practises recognising art careers and what each does (graphic designer, architect, interior designer, product designer), how to prepare for an art career, and why a portfolio matters. Fits indicator ศ 1.2 ป.6/1.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, pick 1 of 3 - What does a graphic designer do? (designs images and lettering to communicate) - What does an interior designer (matanakorn) do? (designs and decorates interiors) - What does a product designer consider? (looks, use, cost and environment) - How should you prepare for an art career? (practise and build a portfolio)

How to use it in class

Suits careers guidance before secondary school, about 7 minutes, whole class. After each job is revealed, have children name something in the room that job designed, such as the logo on a notebook or the school building. The portfolio question can launch each child's own art portfolio this term. For a question many miss, compare the two confused jobs side by side on the board. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Interior designer (matanakorn) is a word children rarely hear; they often guess "designs clothes and jewellery" or confuse it with architect. An architect designs the building, an interior designer the inside. - Architect: some pick "builds it themselves", assuming the designer is the builder. - Preparation: the distractor "wait until you know you have talent" matches what many children believe; use it to talk about practice.
