Balance comes in several kinds, each with its own feel.
The overall key sets the picture's mood.
Before you play
Practises advanced composition: rule of thirds, leading lines, frames within the frame, varying sharpness, symmetrical, asymmetrical and radial balance, colour tone and mood, and viewpoints that change a picture's feel. Fits indicator ศ 1.1 ป.6/2.
4 rounds, match 4 pairs each - rule of thirds goes with placing the focus at an intersection; leading lines go with pulling the eye to what matters - radial balance goes with elements spreading from a centre - black and white goes with classic and form-focused; cool tones go with calm and distant - extreme close-up goes with stressing detail and emotion
Suits a photography or composition lesson, about 9 minutes, in pairs. Project one example photo per principle before each round. After the game, send children to take three photos around school using thirds, leading lines and a frame within the frame. For a round many miss, review the children's own photos against that principle. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.
- "Frame within the frame" and "varying sharpness" often swap since both "emphasise the focus". Show a photo taken through a doorway or window. - Radial balance is a new term; children get it by elimination. Show a flower or a rose window. - Cool tones and monochrome may swap since both feel calm.
