What children will practise

Practises critiquing and evaluating work: why self-assessment helps, criteria covering ideas, skill and communication, giving and receiving feedback focused on the work, accepting work that challenges viewers, and keeping a process record. Fits indicator ศ 1.2 ป.6/2.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, pick 1 of 3 - What should art assessment criteria include? (originality, skill and communication) - How do you take criticism constructively? (listen to the end and pick what you can improve) - Does a work most people dislike have to be bad? (not necessarily) - Why keep a record of your process? (to look back at your decisions and learn)

How to use it in class

Use before an end-of-term showcase where pupils critique each other, about 7 minutes, whole class. After the criteria question, have the class agree three criteria they will actually use. For receiving criticism, practise "Thanks, can I ask more about..." For a question many miss, give one comment about the person and one about the work and ask which is better. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Receiving criticism: the distractor "change your work for every comment you hear" sounds open-minded, so children pick it. Point out you choose what actually helps. - Disliked work: some choose "yes, it must be bad", used to judging by likes. - Self-assessment: some pick "you score higher than the teacher would".
