Before you play
Practises digital art knowledge: what digital art is, its advantages (easy editing, wide sharing), image resolution, checking copyright and crediting web images, the harm of misleading edits, and ethics in digital creation. Fits indicator ศ 1.1 ป.6/1.
6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options - What is image resolution? (how many pixels make up the image) - What must you watch for when using web images? (check copyright and give credit) - What does a photo edited to distort the truth do? (misleads people and causes harm) - What are digital creation ethics? (do not copy, do not distort, give credit)
Use before children start work on tablets or computers, about 7 minutes, solo on devices. For resolution, have children zoom into a picture until they see the little squares. After the copyright question, show a free-licence image source and how to write a credit. For the misleading-edit question, talk about fake news children have seen. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.
- Web images: the distractors "fine if you shrink or flip it" and "fine if you remove the watermark" are real misconceptions. Make clear that editing does not change who owns the copyright. - Resolution: children often pick "the paper size it is printed on". Zoom into a low- and a high-resolution image side by side. - What digital art is: some choose "a hand drawing photographed for keeping".
