Before you play
Understand entrepreneurship: the qualities of an entrepreneur, the parts of a business plan, remedies for common business problems, and what each sales channel offers.
4 rounds, a matching game with 4 pairs each - Taking a considered risk with deciding after weighing the risk; seeing an opening with noticing an unsolved problem - Customers with who will buy; finances with costs, price and expected profit - Costs too high with finding cheaper supplies; cash running short with planning cash flow - A market stall with low cost and meeting customers; consignment with not minding the shop yourself
Use in the Grade 6 entrepreneurship unit before groups write a business plan. 7-8 minutes. - Play in business groups, then each group picks a sales channel from round 4 and justifies it - Use round 2 as the headings for the group's business plan - If many miss round 3, explain cash flow: a shop sells well but customers owe money, so it cannot afford new stock - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.
- In round 3, matching cash running short to cheaper supplies because cash flow is an unfamiliar term - In round 1, swapping perseverance and considered risk, since both involve facing difficulty - In round 3, swapping nothing is selling and customers not returning, both being sales problems; one never sells at all, the other sells once but gets no repeat buyers
