Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Put four processes in order: first aid for a minor burn, managing stress, working out BMI, and playing sport safely.

What's in the worksheet

4 ordering rounds, 4 cards each - Burn: run clean water over it, pat dry gently, cover with a clean cloth, see a doctor if it is large - Stress: notice you are stressed, find the cause, choose a way to relax, get help if it does not improve - BMI: weigh, measure height, calculate, compare with the standard for your age - Safe sport: warm up, check equipment and the pitch, play by the rules, cool down and drink water

How to use it in class

A short game reviewing several units; about 4-5 minutes. - Play in teams and have each team read its order aloud before submitting - For round 3, if time allows, calculate BMI from made-up figures rather than children's own - Use round 2 as a personal plan: each child writes down one way they like to relax - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Round 4: warming up and checking equipment and the pitch can reasonably swap, as many people check the pitch first; accept the child's reasoning - Round 3: weighing and measuring height can go in either order, so children who swap them are not wrong in principle - Round 1: children may forget to pat dry before covering - Round 2: children may want to relax first and think about the cause later
