A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.
Sort into
A producer makes goods; a consumer uses them.
Sort into
Goods are things; services are what people do for you.
Sort into
Good spending weighs what you need against what you have.
Before you play
Practises separating producers from consumers, goods from services, sensible from wasteful spending, and resources that must be used sparingly. Fits indicator ส 3.1 ป.2/1 on goods and services in daily life.
4 rounds, sort 4 items into 2 groups - a farmer growing rice and a baker are producers; someone eating rice and someone buying sweets are consumers - rice and clothes are goods; haircuts and tutoring are services - buying what you need and comparing prices are sensible; buying because a friend has it and buying without checking the price are wasteful - tap water and electricity should be used sparingly; sunlight and air are unlimited
Use after a pretend market in class, about 6 minutes, in teams. In the producer and consumer round, point out one person can be both: a rice farmer also eats rice. In the spending round, ask whether anyone has bought something because a friend had it. After the resources round, set a class goal for switching off lights and taps. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.
- Goods and services: tutoring and haircuts are intangible; Grade 2 children may misplace them because you pay as with goods. Ask "Do you take a thing home?" - Resources: air may be put under use-sparingly because children have heard about smog. Accept that air must be kept clean, but here it counts as unlimited. - "Someone buying sweets" may be put under producers because they are the one acting.
