A look before you play

Sample questions

A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.

  1. What does clearing the forest lead to?

    • Floods happen and wild animals lose their homes
    • It rains more and more every year
    • The soil becomes more fertile
    Read the explanation

Floods, landslides, and wild animals with nowhere to live.

  2. What good does sorting waste do?

    • Every piece of rubbish rots faster
    • Some can be reused and there is less rubbish
    • We no longer need rubbish trucks
    Read the explanation

Some of it can be used again, and there is less left to dispose of.

  3. Which kind of waste can be used again?

    • Used tissues and nappies
    • Foam boxes dirty with food
    • Plastic bottles and paper
    Read the explanation

Plastic bottles, paper and metal can all be recycled.

What children will practise

Practises linking human actions to the environment: effects of deforestation, why we sort rubbish, what can be recycled, how trees help, the main causes of air pollution, and ways to help slow global warming. Fits indicator ส 5.2 ป.3/1.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, 3 options each - What does cutting down forests cause? (floods and wildlife losing homes) - Which rubbish can be reused? (plastic bottles and paper) - What mainly causes air pollution? (smoke from vehicles, factories and burning) - How can we help slow global warming? (save energy and plant trees)

How to use it in class

Good around Environment Day or before a school recycling drive, about 7 minutes, whole class. For the recyclables question, bring real items (a bottle, a dirty foam box, tissue) for children to sort at the front after the reveal. Link the air-pollution question to local dust readings. Turn any question many miss into a one-week class mission. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Global warming: the distractor "turn up the air-con to cool things down" sounds logical to Grade 3. Explain that air-con uses lots of electricity and adds to warming. - Recyclables: the food-stained foam box can draw children who see it as plastic too. - Deforestation: some pick "more rain", linking forests and rain but the wrong way round.
