What children will practise

Reviews several Grade 3 social studies units: the area a kamnan looks after, the plateau region, what happens when spending exceeds income, which kingdom came first, why we sort rubbish, and what democracy means.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, 3 options, one unit each - Which level does a kamnan look after? (the sub-district) - Which region is a plateau? (the Northeast) - Which kingdom came first? (Sukhothai) - What is democracy? (supreme power belongs to the people; distractors are the rich and the prime minister)

How to use it in class

A review before the end-of-term test, about 6 minutes, teams competing. For any question most teams miss, open the topic set next lesson: local government for the kamnan, geography of Thailand for the plateau, income and expenses for spending. After the democracy question, ask where the prime minister's power comes from. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Democracy: the distractor "supreme power belongs to the prime minister" draws children who see the PM on the news. Point out the PM's power comes from the people. - Kamnan: children who confuse the role with the village headman choose "village". - Plateau: some pick the Central region, remembering "plain" but missing "high".
