What children will practise

Practises applying teachings in daily life: gratitude, honesty, patience and sacrifice; the Four Noble Truths as a way of solving problems; each religion's scripture; and how actions have consequences. Fits indicator ส 1.1 ป.3/1.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, match 4 pairs each - sacrifice goes with giving up your own benefit for the group - samudaya goes with the cause of a problem; nirodha with the state where the problem is gone - Islam goes with the Quran; Hinduism with the Vedas - lying often goes with nobody trusting you

How to use it in class

Use in a Buddhism or ethics lesson, about 8 minutes, in teams. Before the Four Noble Truths round, take a real class problem such as a messy room and walk through dukkha, samudaya, nirodha and magga together. In the actions round, let children add examples from their own lives. In the scriptures round, invite pupils of other faiths to say more. Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Four Noble Truths: nirodha and magga are the most common swap since both relate to solving the problem. Hook: nirodha is the destination, magga is the path. - Patience and sacrifice may swap since both involve "giving way". Point to "for the group". - Scriptures: the Vedas are unfamiliar and usually reached by elimination.
