What children will practise

Know Thailand's system of government, the three branches of sovereign power and what each does (legislature, executive, judiciary), and that the constitution is the supreme law.

What's in the worksheet

6 multiple-choice questions, 3 options each - Thailand is a democracy with the King as head of state - Sovereign power has 3 branches - Legislature makes laws, executive runs the country, judiciary judges cases - The constitution is the country's supreme law (distractors: school rules, village by-laws)

How to use it in class

Use after teaching the three branches, or as a warm-up next lesson; about 5 minutes. - Questions 3-5 ask the same kind of thing three times; chant it first: parliament makes laws, government runs, courts judge - Play solo on tablets and show the class totals on screen so everyone sees which branch is most confused - If 3-5 go badly, compare with the classroom: who sets class rules, who carries them out, who decides a quarrel - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Questions 3 and 4: legislature and executive are swapped often, both being long unfamiliar words, and the options reuse each other's answers; hook: nitti (law) is in nitibanyat - Question 1: 'absolute monarchy' also mentions the King, so children who remember only that may pick it; explain it was the system before 1932 - Question 2: bare numbers 4, 3, 2 invite guessing; count the three branches on fingers together after the answer
