What children will practise

Practise word meanings: opposites (ขยัน/ขี้เกียจ, กล้า/ขลาด), near-synonyms (สวย/งาม, เร็ว/ไว), what different jobs do, and what tools are used for, so children can ask and answer questions about what they read (ท 1.1 ป.2/3).

What's in the worksheet

4 matching questions, 4 pairs each - Match ขยัน (hard-working) to ขี้เกียจ (lazy) and รวย (rich) to จน (poor) - Match สวย to งาม (beautiful, lovely) and โกรธ to เคือง (angry, annoyed) - Match ชาวนา (rice farmer) to ทำนา and ตำรวจ (police) to catching criminals - Match มีด (knife) to หั่น (slicing) and ช้อน (spoon) to ตัก (scooping)

How to use it in class

Use as a mid-lesson vocabulary game, 5 minutes in team mode. - For item 1, children act out the opposites, such as brave (chest out) and cowardly (hiding behind a friend) - For item 3, ask what job they want when they grow up and what it involves - For item 2, explain that near-synonyms mean almost the same, but some belong in speech and some in writing Play it linked to a class and the results go into the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Item 2: unsure about ใหญ่ and โต, since โต usually means to grow; give บ้านหลังโต (a big house) - Item 2: P2 children may not know เคือง and match it by elimination - Item 1: ขลาด (cowardly) is rarely heard in daily life
