What children will practise

Practise reading short sentences and answering who and why, using จึง to find a cause and จน to find a result, recognising a moral tale, and knowing the main idea is what a piece is trying to say (ท 1.1 ป.2/3).

What's in the worksheet

6 multiple-choice questions - สมชายตื่นสาย จึงไปโรงเรียนไม่ทัน: why was he late (he woke up late) - แมวไล่จับหนู หนูวิ่งหนีเข้ารู: who ran away (the mouse) - ฝนตกหนักจนน้ำท่วมถนน: what does จน tell you (the result) - What is a story that teaches you to do good called (a moral tale) - What should you do first when reading for meaning (skim the whole piece)

How to use it in class

Use before or after a short story from the coursebook, 5 minutes in solo mode. - For items 1 and 3, children circle จึง and จน and say which part is the cause and which the result - After the game, each child writes one sentence with จึง or จน - Use Thai mode for item 2: English mode glosses หนู as I, while it means a mouse in this story - For item 6, children state the main idea of the story they just read in one sentence Play it linked to a class and the results go into the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Item 2: choosing แมว (cat) because it is the first word; look at who comes right before วิ่งหนี - Item 3: choosing when it rained, not yet knowing what จน does - Item 1: choosing rain or a broken-down car by guessing from experience instead of reading
