Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Practise synonyms (ดวงอาทิตย์/ตะวัน, ท้องฟ้า/นภา), opposites (เริ่มต้น/สิ้นสุด, ยอมรับ/ปฏิเสธ), royal words (เสวย, บรรทม, ประทับ, ตรัส) and polite words (รับประทาน, ศีรษะ, สุนัข, ถึงแก่กรรม) (ท 4.1 ป.3/1).

What's in the worksheet

4 matching questions, 4 pairs each - Match ดวงจันทร์ to เดือน (moon) and แผ่นดิน to ปฐพี (land, earth) - Match เปิดเผย (reveal) to ปกปิด (conceal) and สำเร็จ (succeed) to ล้มเหลว (fail) - Match บรรทม to นอน (sleep) and ตรัส to พูด (speak) - Match ศีรษะ to หัว (head) and ถึงแก่กรรม to ตาย (die)

How to use it in class

Use after teaching royal and polite vocabulary, 5 minutes in solo mode. - For items 3 and 4, children sort which words are for the King and which are for speaking politely to adults - For item 1, have them find synonyms in songs or poems they know, such as ตะวัน and นภา - If ถึงแก่กรรม upsets anyone, keep it brief: it is simply the polite word - Use Thai mode: English mode gives the meaning of ปฏิเสธ for ยอมรับ in one item Play it linked to a class and the results go into the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Item 3: swapping ประทับ and บรรทม, both royal words not used daily - Item 1: swapping the moon and sun pairs, not knowing เดือน can mean the moon - Item 4: thinking รับประทาน is a royal word rather than a polite one; it doesn't change the answer here, but the difference is worth making clear
