What children will practise

Reviews the basics of recitation verse: what a บทอาขยาน is, how many lines a stanza of kap yani 11 has, what สัมผัส means, who wrote Phra Aphai Mani, and how verse differs from prose. It supports indicator ท 5.1 ป.4/4 (learning set verses and chosen poems by heart).

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with three options each - What is a บทอาขยาน? A verse set to be learnt by heart - How many lines in one stanza of kap yani 11? 4 - สัมผัส in verse means matched sound between words - Phra Aphai Mani was written by Sunthorn Phu (distractors: Si Prat and Prince Thammathibet)

How to use it in class

Play it before starting the term's recitation piece, to settle the words line, stanza and rhyme. Allow 5-7 minutes; solo play on tablets is fine. After question 2, project one stanza of kap yani and count the lines together. After question 3, have children point to the rhyming pair in that same stanza. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook as a pre-recitation mark. Question 5 has very weak distractors and tests little on its own; follow it with an open question about what else learning verse by heart does for us.

Common sticking points

- Question 2: answering 2 lines because kap yani is printed on two rows. Point out that each printed row holds two lines (วรรค). - Question 4: choosing Si Prat because it is a poet's name they have heard. Recall that Sunthorn Phu wrote Phra Aphai Mani. - Question 6: choosing verse is always longer than prose. Compare a four-line verse with a short story that runs several pages.
