What children will practise

Picks out subject and predicate, and distinguishes simple from compound sentences and the conjunction that joins them. It matches ท 4.1 ป.4/2, naming the kind and job of words in a sentence.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with three options each - In นักเรียนอ่านหนังสือในห้องสมุด the subject is นักเรียน - The predicate of the same sentence is อ่านหนังสือในห้องสมุด - A compound sentence is simple sentences joined together, using a word like และ - ฉันอ่านหนังสือและน้องดูโทรทัศน์ is a compound sentence

How to use it in class

Use it mid-lesson on sentences, once subject and predicate have been explained. 5-6 minutes, solo, to check each child. Questions 1 and 2 share one sentence: after revealing question 2, write it on the board and underline the two parts in different colours. Set one compound sentence of their own as follow-up homework. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Question 2: choosing นักเรียนอ่านหนังสือ, thinking the predicate needs the doer too. Stress that the predicate leaves the subject out. - Question 1: some choose อ่านหนังสือ, taking the subject to be the main action. Ask: who is reading? - Question 6: choosing complex because there are two parts. Show that และ joins two statements of equal weight.
