Before you play
Orders more demanding ideas: words into a complex sentence, the paragraphs of an argument, the steps of checking a news story, and registers from least to most formal. Fits ท 2.1 ป.6/2 and links to ท 4.1 ป.6/2 (register).
4 questions, an ordering game with four pieces each - ครู > ที่สอนภาษาไทย > เป็นคน > ใจดีมาก (the teacher who teaches Thai is a very kind person) - state the issue > give your reasons > deal with the other side's > close by holding your position - look at the source > check the date > compare elsewhere > then decide - colloquial > conversational > semi-formal > ceremonial
Use it before a debate or an opinion-writing task, about 6 minutes in teams. Question 3 connects well with real life: after revealing it, take one fake news story and walk the class through the four steps. For question 4, mention that Thai textbooks name five registers and this game leaves out the formal level (ทางการ). You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook.
- Question 4: swapping colloquial and conversational, as both are for talking among friends. Give one sentence on the same topic at each level to compare. - Question 2: putting the other side's reasons before your own, thinking you must rebut first. Show that your position needs establishing first. - Question 3: swapping check the date and compare elsewhere, which could go either way in practice. Say that the game fixes this order but both steps matter equally. - Question 1: the in-game explanation says the main clause comes first and the subordinate clause after, yet the answer places ที่สอนภาษาไทย in the middle, right after ครู. Explain that a ที่ clause sits directly after the noun it describes.
