How to use it in class
Use it at the start of a word-formation unit as a baseline, or at the end as review. About 5 minutes, solo. Questions 3 and 5 are a pair children often confuse: after revealing question 5, write บ้านเรือน and เด็ก ๆ side by side and ask how they differ. Then have each child find two more doubled and two more reduplicated words. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook.
Common sticking points
- Question 3: choosing the same word said twice, as คำซ้อน and คำซ้ำ sound so alike. Separate them: reduplication repeats the same word, a doubled word joins different words of near meaning. - Question 4: choosing บ้านใหม่ because it is two words. Ask whether ใหม่ means the same as บ้าน or only describes it. - Question 2: choosing บ้าน as a familiar word. Stress that a compound needs at least two root words. - Doubled words are not only near-synonyms: opposites pair up too, as in ดีชั่ว and ผิดถูก, which the in-game explanation mentions. Tell children this, even though the question 3 option says only near meaning.
