Curriculum indicators practised
Before you begin
Pick out the planets from other things in space such as the Sun, the Moon, a comet and human-made objects.
10 questions, 10 points - Look at each picture and circle planet / not a planet - Five planets: Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and the yellow-orange globe in item 9 (drawn like Venus) - Five non-planets: the Sun, the Moon, a rocket, a comet and an astronaut - The planets are not labelled; the answer key only marks planet or not a planet
Use after teaching that planets orbit the Sun and the Moon orbits the Earth. Allow about 10 minutes. - Before starting, act it out: one child is the Sun in the middle, one is the Earth walking round it, and one is the Moon circling the Earth - After marking, challenge confident children to name all five planets on the sheet
- Calling the Sun (item 2) a planet because it is a big round body like the others - Calling the Moon (item 4) a planet because it is round and in space - Calling the comet (item 8) a planet because its Thai name contains ดาว - Not counting Earth (item 1) as a planet because it is where we live
