What children will practise

Practises sorting art careers by 2D versus spatial work, camera angles that make a subject look big or small, conservation versus new creation, and assessment criteria for ideas versus skill. Supports indicator ศ 1.1 ป.6/1.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, sort 4 items into 2 groups - graphic designers and illustrators work in 2D; architects and interior designers in space and 3D - low angle looking up and shooting from the ground make things look big and powerful; high angle looking down makes them look small - learning traditional dance and restoring murals are conservation; new songs from Thai melodies are new creation - originality of idea is about thinking; fine craftsmanship is about skill

How to use it in class

The camera-angle round works best if children first photograph a friend from low and high angles with a phone or tablet; the game takes about 6 minutes in teams. The criteria round can become the rubric for the class's next piece. If the conservation round goes badly, ask "Does this keep something old, or make something new?" Play it linked to the class and the scores go into the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Camera angles: children often think a high angle makes things look bigger because the camera is "high". Taking real photos fixes this fastest. - "Digital work from Thai patterns": some put it under conservation because of the Thai pattern. Point out it makes something new from the old. - "Communicating meaning" may be filed under skill, since children feel you need skill to communicate.
