Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Use position words (above, below, left, right, in front, behind, near, far), sort things that are high from things that are low, and meet shapes that fold exactly in half.

What's in the worksheet

4 rounds, a sorting game with 4 items each - Above and below go under up/down; on the left and on the right under left/right - A roof and a cloud are high; a floor and a tree root are low - In front and behind go under front/back; near and far under near/far - A circle and a square are symmetrical; the letters P and R are not

How to use it in class

Use with an action game in class. 6 minutes. - Before playing, children raise their left and right hands and point up and down on command - Play as a class; for round 4, hand out paper circles and P shapes to try folding in half - If many miss round 1, ask "Does this word make us point up and down, or to the side?" - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.

Common sticking points

- In round 4, guessing because สมมาตร (symmetrical) is a new word; teach it by folding paper first - In round 1, confusing their own left and right with the screen's - In round 2, putting the roof under low because it is lower than a cloud
