Before you begin
Read amounts from dots in a ten-frame and work out how many more are needed to make ten.
10 questions, 20 points - Questions 1-5: count the dots in a ten-frame and circle one of three numbers (answers 4, 7, 10, 2, 9) - Questions 6-10: complete the number bond to 10: 6 + 4, 3 + 7, 8 + 2, 1 + 9, 5 + 5 - A separate answer key is included
Use once children know the ten-frame and before bridging through ten in addition. Allow about 10-15 minutes. - For questions 6-10, have children point to and count the empty boxes rather than the dots - Follow up with a pairs game: match number cards that make 10
- In questions 6-10, writing the number of dots shown instead of the number still needed, e.g. 6 in 6 + ☐ = 10 - Counting the top row of five and losing track on the bottom row, e.g. answering 6 instead of 7 in question 2 - Circling 9 for the full frame in question 3 after missing one dot
